Contactless · Identification & Authentication
NFC Labels & Tags
NFC labels and tags - contactless identification, with TrueTap cryptographic authentication available.
NFC labels and tags bring contactless scanning to the HSA + Trailio stack. Standard NFC chips provide fast identification - convenient for inventory and verification workflows. TrueTap-provisioned NFC chips add cryptographic authentication where standard NFC is insufficient.
Product overview
What this physical product is
HSA Security Solutions supplies standard NFC labels, NFC seals, and NFC tags from its Dubai facility. Where the deployment requires cryptographic authentication - luxury goods, government credentials, secure documents - TrueTap-provisioned chips provide non-clonable, challenge-response verification. Trailio integrates with both, treating standard NFC taps as identification events and TrueTap taps as authenticated verification events.
Selection & deployment
Select the product, substrate, closure, identifier and workflow for the operating environment. Physical products provide closure or tamper evidence; digital identity, event records and verification require a compatible Trailio deployment.

How HSA supplies this product
HSA Security Solutions supplies the physical security layer for this deployment. Trailio can connect compatible identifiers and operational events to digital identity, verification, traceability, chain of custody, analytics and workflow.
Cryptographic NFC
TrueTap - cryptographic NFC authentication
When standard NFC is not enough, TrueTap-provisioned chips deliver non-clonable, challenge–response verification suitable for luxury goods, government credentials, and secure documents.
Explore TrueTapHSA Security Solutions supplies the physical security layer. Trailio provides the digital identity, event records and workflow layer.
Capabilities
What this product does
Each capability maps to a Trailio digital surface - authentication, custody, verification, or analytics.
-
Standard NFC · identification
Standard NFC chips carry a static identifier, readable by any NFC-enabled smartphone - convenient for fast contactless scanning in inventory and verification workflows.
-
TrueTap · cryptographic authentication
TrueTap-provisioned chips add challenge-response cryptography: each verification is a fresh encrypted exchange, and reading the chip does not yield a copyable secret.
-
Non-clonable chip identity
Each TrueTap chip is uniquely provisioned; duplication does not replicate the cryptographic proof.
-
No proprietary handset required
Standard NFC and TrueTap taps work with consumer NFC smartphones - no dedicated reader hardware.
-
Audit-grade logging
Every tap - identification or cryptographic - produces a timestamped, location-stamped record in Trailio.
-
Developer API & SDK
REST and mobile SDKs allow embedding of TrueTap verification inside existing consumer apps, brand-protection surfaces, or government inspection tools.
Trailio Integration
How this product integrates with Trailio
Every physical event - a seal applied, a label scanned, a bag closed - becomes a verified digital record inside the Trailio audit chain. The workflow below illustrates the operational handshake.
-
Chip provisioned
Standard NFC chips are programmed with a static identifier. TrueTap chips are cryptographically provisioned with unique encrypted keys.
-
Embedded at manufacture
The chip is embedded in the label, seal, or product at the point of manufacture.
-
Identity registered
Trailio registers the chip identity against the product record at the point of issue.
-
Field tap
In the field, an NFC-enabled device taps the chip - standard NFC returns an identifier; TrueTap returns a cryptographic verification result.
-
Verification & analytics
Verification results surface in Trailio dashboards; failed TrueTap challenges escalate as counterfeit attempts.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
-
What's the difference between standard NFC and TrueTap NFC?
Standard NFC chips carry a static identifier - they identify an item but do not authenticate it. The identifier can be read and copied by any NFC phone. TrueTap-provisioned chips add cryptographic challenge-response: each verification is a fresh encrypted exchange between chip and server, replaying past traffic does not produce a valid new verification, and duplication does not replicate the cryptographic proof. TrueTap is used for luxury goods authentication, government identity programmes, and secure document verification.
-
Are all NFC tags cryptographically secure?
No. Standard NFC tags are an identification layer - convenient for fast contactless scanning - but they do not provide cryptographic authentication. Only TrueTap-provisioned chips deliver non-clonable, challenge-response verification suitable for anti-counterfeit, identity, and secure document use cases. We treat this distinction as material and never imply that all NFC tags are cryptographically secure.
-
Do consumers need a special app?
Standard NFC taps work with any NFC-enabled smartphone. TrueTap verification can be surfaced through a web result (no app) or embedded in a brand or government app via SDK. Luxury deployments typically surface TrueTap verification through the brand's own app.
-
Where is TrueTap deployed today?
TrueTap is deployed across luxury product authentication (shoes, handbags, watches), government identity programmes (driving licences, national ID), vehicle authentication, and secure document verification (degrees, land titles, civil certificates).
-
Can NFC labels be combined with QR codes?
Yes. Hybrid labels carrying both a serialised QR (for universal scan verification) and an NFC chip (for contactless or cryptographic verification) are common in luxury and pharma deployments.
