Trade Channel Monitoring

Continuous visibility and verification across authorised distribution channels

How Trailio TrueTrade monitors product movement through authorised distribution channels - detecting diversion, unauthorised resale, and channel bypass before products reach end consumers through illegitimate routes.

TrueTrade TrueBrandAssetTag

Distribution channel violations are commercially and legally damaging - and almost impossible to detect manually

Authorised distributors who divert product outside their assigned territory - selling to unauthorised wholesalers, exporting to lower-tax markets, or over-supplying to grey market intermediaries - cause direct financial harm to brand owners and authorised channel partners.

Without product-level scan data, brand owners have no way to detect diversion until the evidence appears as complaints from authorised retailers, customs investigations, or consumer-reported counterfeit products. By that point, significant commercial damage has already occurred.

Trade channel monitoring gives brand owners real-time visibility into every distribution movement - making diversion detectable at the point it occurs, not months later.

Product diversion

Distributor redirects product to unauthorised channel or territory for higher margin

Grey market stocking

Authorised products appearing in unauthorised retail or discount channels

Channel bypass

Product appears at retail without a distributor scan - indicating direct unauthorised supply

Volume discrepancy

Distributor receiving more product than their authorised market can legitimately absorb

Retailer non-compliance

Retailers purchasing from sources outside the authorised distribution chain

How trade channel monitoring operates

From channel configuration through real-time diversion detection and intelligence reporting.

  1. 1

    Channel Registration

    Authorised distribution channels configured

Each authorised distributor, retailer, and trade partner is registered in TrueTrade with their assigned territory, product category access, and permitted scan locations. This establishes the "expected" distribution map against which all scan events are verified.

  2. 2

    Consignment Despatch

Products serialised and despatched into channel

Each consignment despatched to an authorised distributor is recorded in TrueTrade - product identity, quantity, destination, and authorised market. The distributor receives a digital consignment record that defines exactly which products they are authorised to hold and sell in which territory.

  3. 3

    Distributor Activity

    Distributor scan events tracked continuously

Every distributor scan - receipt, stock movement, transfer to retailer - is recorded in the platform. The pattern of scan activity is monitored against the authorised distribution map. Unexplained stock movements, missing scan events, or transfers to unauthorised partners are flagged.

  4. 4

    Retail Verification

Retail scan events verify authorised stocking

Retail scan events at point of receipt or point of sale are verified against the distribution map. A product appearing at a retailer outside its authorised territory, or one that bypassed its authorised distributor in the chain, is flagged as a potential diversion event.

  5. 5

    Anomaly Detection

    Channel violations automatically detected

The platform continuously monitors the scan event stream for channel violations: products in unauthorised geographies, distributors exceeding their assigned volumes, or products appearing in the market without a distributor scan event. Each violation triggers a configured alert workflow.

  6. 6

    Intelligence Reporting

Trade channel intelligence generated and reported

Aggregated channel data produces intelligence reports: which distributors are diverting product, which markets have excess unauthorised stock, and which product lines are most at risk. These reports support commercial enforcement actions, distributor contract reviews, and regulatory filing.

What the platform detects and reports

Territory violation alerts

Product scanned outside its authorised distribution geography triggers an immediate diversion alert.

Distributor bypass detection

Retail scan events for products with no distributor scan record indicate channel bypass.

Volume anomaly monitoring

Distributors scanning volumes significantly above or below expected levels are flagged for review.

Unauthorised reseller detection

Products scanned by parties not registered in the authorised channel are identified automatically.

Market saturation intelligence

Aggregated scan data identifies markets where supply exceeds expected authorised demand.

Distributor performance reports

Per-distributor channel compliance reports for commercial review and contract enforcement.
